2. Nature of content
The color entries on iro are provided as a general reference for education, design work, and casual interest. Origin notes are written in plain language for readers unfamiliar with Japan and are not a substitute for academic sources on Japanese color history, textile science, or art history.
3. Color accuracy
Traditional Japanese colors originated as natural dyes and mineral pigments. The hex values on iro are digital approximations chosen from the most widely accepted references; they will render differently on different displays, printers, and materials. For production work — printing, dyeing, painting, product design — always confirm the color on the actual medium before committing.
4. Use of copied values
You are free to use any hex, RGB, HSL, or CMYK value copied from this Site in your own projects, commercial or otherwise. Colors themselves cannot be copyrighted. The names are common Japanese nouns; if you build a product or brand around one, check locally whether any specific mark in your category is already registered.
5. Site content
The written origin notes, English translations, palette groupings, editorial photography, and site design are provided free to read but remain the copyright of iro. You may share links freely and quote short passages with attribution, but please do not republish the notes wholesale without permission.
6. Advertising
iro is free to use and supported by advertising served via Google AdSense. We do not endorse advertised products, and we cannot control which ads appear on any given page load. Reports about broken, malicious, or misleading ads are welcome and will be forwarded to Google.
